A pair of keen Quayclean leaders have returned from England after working at some of the world’s biggest sports and entertainment events as part of the company’s international leadership exchange program.
Established in partnership with CleanEvent UK, the program sends two Quayclean team members to England each year to build their industry knowledge, while two CleanEvent UK staff travel to Australia to gain experience at major Quayclean event sites.
Sagar Giri, Senior Contract Manager for NSW, and Sam Peglar, Regional Manager for Tasmania, represented Quayclean in 2026, taking on Zone Manager roles at the Royal Ascot horseracing carnival and the British Formula 1 Grand Prix festival at Silverstone.
The pair also worked the Zach Bryan concert at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool and both of The Weeknd’s concerts at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium. They also inspected major venues including Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium.
Giri and Peglar completed a series of British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) training modules designed to standardise cleaning methodologies and improve operational consistency across the industry. Founded in 1961, BICSc has grown into one of the world’s leading independent professional and educational bodies in the cleaning sector, supporting organisations, trainers and operatives across healthcare, hospitality, transport, education, sport and entertainment venues globally.
Trainer accreditation adds to the pair’s toolkit
Having spent nearly a decade climbing the ranks at Quayclean, both managers used the trip to formalise their training credentials as well. Giri and Peglar also completed the BICSc Accredited Trainer Course, which qualifies them to formally train their Quayclean colleagues on the standards they picked up overseas.
Giri began his Quayclean career as a cleaner on post-event cleans at the Sydney Cricket Ground and has since progressed to NSW Senior Contract Manager, while Peglar started as a cleaner at Peninsula Grammar before rising to Regional Manager of Tasmania.
Now in its fourth year, the exchange program forms a key part of the Quay Academy leadership development program and complements Quayclean’s commitment to the Venue Management School program run through the Venue Management Association, according to Quayclean Chief Operating Officer Tom Mills.
“The exchange program is about knowledge sharing, so that more leaders within our business can grow and be elevated to assume senior roles and take on greater responsibilities,” says Mills.
Peglar says it was a fantastic opportunity to see how site event presentation and operations are managed in England, and that he and Giri are looking forward to sharing their insights with the wider Quayclean team.
