Robotics Data releases report on disinfection robot sector

Global disinfection robots market expected to surge over next two years.

Robotics Data, a robotics analytics and consultant firm, has released a new report providing details on the disinfection robot sector.

The report offers company data and details on more than 60 different global companies developing semi-autonomous and autonomous mobile robot systems that utilise ultraviolet light (UVC) to disinfect indoor locations to eliminate airborne and surface viruses, especially COVID-19 and its variants.

As the world continues to deal with the aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including new surges due to variants, companies are looking at robotic solutions that can help clean and disinfect indoor areas quickly and safely.

This can include offices, restaurants, schools, public spaces, airports and shopping centers. Automation solutions are sought due to continued workforce labour shortages and the need for additional sanitation regulations and requirements for businesses.

The global disinfection robots market, valued at $1 billion in 2020, is expected to surge with a compound annual growth rate of 15 per cent over the next two years, according to research firm Persistence Market Research. Within that space, fully autonomous robots contribute more than 80 per cent of the global market share.

“Many robotic companies with mobile robots that could perform other tasks have begun offering UVC-based disinfection systems as a way to reach new potential customers,” said Keith Shaw, general partner at Robotics Data and one of the authors of the report.

“Our report helps companies distinguish between companies that originally designed robots for disinfection purposes, and newer companies that have modified their robots to support cleaning and disinfection.”

In addition to a list of the companies in the space, the report includes the company’s location, when they were founded, contact information and brief descriptions and features of their robots.

“We believe this is the most comprehensive listing of UVC disinfection robots to date,” said Shaw.

“Companies looking to deploy these robots can use this report as a starting point in their purchasing decisions to make sure they are aware of all the different options available.”
