Quayclean readies for AFL restart

Quayclean is contracted to seven of the eight venues to be used by AFL clubs in the coming weeks.

Quayclean is preparing for the AFL season re-start, with the cleaning, hygiene and waste management company contracted to seven of the eight venues to be used by AFL clubs in coming weeks.

The venues include Marvel Stadium, GMHBA Stadium in Geelong, the SCG, Giants Stadium, the Gabba, Metricon Stadium and Adelaide Oval (before Port and the Crows head to the Gold Coast).

Quayclean staff will be particularly busy at Marvel Stadium  and Metricon Stadium with these venues hosting weekend and same-day double headers in coming weeks.

Quayclean’s staff will be cleaning and disinfecting areas and surfaces including:-

  • Team changing rooms, coaches rooms and interchange benches
  • Umpires rooms
  • Media conference rooms, tables and chairs
  • Media facilities including radio and TV broadcast areas, desks and chairs
  • Lifts
  • Handrails, doorknobs, support ledges, toilets, light switches, phones, fridges, taps
  • Stadium equipment control areas and equipment

Quayclean CEO, Mark Piwkowski, said his staff have undergone special training programs to ensure the venues are safe for players, officials, media and stadium event-day staff.

“The cleaning and disinfecting of these areas are essential and all Quayclean staff have completed and are certified in the Government recommended ‘Infection Control Training – COVID 19” program,” said Piwkowski.

“Staff will use World Health Organisation approved, hospital-grade cleaning and disinfectant products and will spend around 22 hours cleaning venues before the first bounce, and 60 hours post the final siren.

“The purpose of the cleaning and disinfection process is to remove viral contamination from environmental surfaces and equipment surfaces to eliminate transmission of the virus from these surfaces.

“Additionally, a team of cleaners will be conducting rotational cleaning of all occupied areas of venues while games are in progress,” said Piwkowski.

Quayclean is an Australian-owned cleaning and presentation company and one of the largest independent operators across the country.

Quayclean services more than 125 major public facilities across Australia and employs over 1200 full-time, permanent part-time and casual personnel.

Last month the company launched a new commercial arm, Quay Supply Network, to assist businesses, schools and public venues source and supply cleaning and protection products.

Quay Supply Network specialises in supplying hand sanitisers, anti-bacterial hand washes and soaps, hospital grade disinfectants and a broad range of Personal Protective Equipment.
