Cleanery launches in Australia

Eco start-up launches in Australia with major supermarket secured as stockist.

Cleaning brand Cleanery has landed in Australia from its native New Zealand, with Woolworths and an Australian pharmacy on board as the first major stockists.

The new range of kitchen, bathroom, and multi-purpose cleaners come in a powdered form and are sold in recyclable sachets.

According to the eco-start-up, the sachets of plant and mineral based formulations represent 99 per cent less plastic than traditional single use bottles.

Auckland-based co-founders, Ellie Brade and Mark Sorensen, developed the Cleanery range in 2020 and piloted in New Zealand.

Fast forward to 2022, and Cleanery’s ambition to take a leadership position in sustainable cleaning has inspired the brand to head to Australia.

Cleanery’s product range is vegan, cruelty-free, biodegradable, and septic tank safe, free from solvents, silicones, parabens, phthalates, dyes, phosphate, chlorine, ammonia, and GMOs.

“We all know customers care about the world we live in, want to reduce their environmental footprint, and worry about excessive packaging and waste,” said Cleanery co-founder, Mark Sorensen.

Along with product performance, consumers are taking more ethical approaches to purchases, according to Brade.

“While traditional manufacturers have developed a business model that is based on shipping water around the world in single use bottles, we deliver the end product – the cleaning solution – to the consumer in a more economical sachet, which is cost-effective as well as environmentally sustainable.

“This is a passion project for us – we care deeply about helping customers make positive changes and having impact at scale.”

To tackle pollution, Cleanery extended their eco-conscience to its manufacturing process. Ingredients for Cleanery products are ethically and responsibly sourced, and the sachets are also fully recyclable.

In addition, Cleanery’s low waste, low emissions factory consumes around the same amount of energy as a family home, and the brand uses only sustainable postage and packaging options.
