Spotless Drives Success with Lighthouse

Australia’s largest facilities services provider improves workforce visibility and efficiency using the power of IoT sensors.

Spotless is a leading provider of integrated facilities management services in Australia and New Zealand, with 36,000 employees working across all of their facilities.

They perform a range of services covering asset maintenance and management, catering and hospitality, cleaning, facility management, laundry management, mechanical and electrical, security and utility support services.

At several of their public facilities, especially shopping malls and airports, Spotless is often required to clean at defined, regular intervals.

These service levels are known as loop times and dictate how frequently an area must be inspected and cleaned.

With the lack of real-time visibility of their distributed workforce, Spotless was facing several common business challenges.

This led them to TEAM Software, a market leader in industry-specific software built for cleaning, security and facilities management companies.

Together with TEAM Software, Spotless worked to identify the specific problems that could be solved using an enhanced software platform, including:

  • How can we use data to improve our ways of working?
  • How can we use data to better maximize our cleaning workforce?
  • How can we eliminate inefficient and inaccurate paper-based reporting systems?
  • How can we gain real-time visibility of our employees?

Through a process of review and collaboration, a multi-step solution was implemented at several Spotless facilities using Lighthouse, a mobile-first workforce management platform from TEAM Software.

Lighthouse allowed Spotless to efficiently record loop times using GPS monitoring, mobile forms and task tracking, which provided clients with accurate and meaningful records of the services being performed.

To gather this valuable data, more than 500 Bluetooth beacons were installed across shopping centers, train stations and airports managed by Spotless.

The small battery-powered devices broadcast signals using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Nearby mobile devices with the Lighthouse app listen for the signals, which deliver content and capture data.

After implementing Lighthouse across multiple sites, Spotless saw positive outcomes , which included:

  • Ensuring the cleaning workforce has the right information and tools, at the right time and in the right place, to ensure they’re delivering on customer expectations.
  • Eliminating the need for pen-and-paper processes.
  • Providing valuable insights to customers, while driving efficiency throughout the entire business.

“Lighthouse offers an innovative way of reducing business risk,” said Kristian McPherson, Business Improvement Manager of Spotless. “The data it creates provides a unique opportunity to understand and optimize the way we conduct our business.”

With global workforce management software, Spotless created greater transparency for customers, while more effectively managing resources.

This resulted in a safer environment for their staff, as well as their customers. Watch the Spotless video case study below, and to learn more about Lighthouse, visit the TEAM Software website.
