Serco Asia Pacific has announced a new integrated facilities management business unit incorporating key FM and asset management services.

The formation of the facilities management business unit will provide a platform to enhance existing facility management contracts and broaden capability across Serco’s other five key sectors of Defence, justice and immigration, health, citizen services and transport.

It will be led by Ben Bayot who joined Serco in January following the company’s acquisition of Facilities First Australia (FF).

The substantial investment in FF, a national specialist provider of cleaning, facility maintenance and management services, brings dedicated local skill and operations which has been combined with Serco’s international expertise.

The announcement comes at a time when Serco has been recognised by the Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom through a seven-year contract to support the UK’s defence capability, maintaining nationally important assets and buildings across its estate with responsibility for more than 200 sites and 19,000 buildings.

The services include planned and reactive maintenance, mandatory safety checks through to asset replacement, property refurbishments and large construction projects.

Serco Asia Pacific CEO Peter Welling said: “The appointment of Ben Bayot as the managing director of our new Facilities Management Business Unit delivers significant expertise. Ben will work closely with all our current business areas combining our local knowledge with true international expertise.

“Our Defence Unit, which is recognised as Defence Industry Naval Business of the Year under the leadership of RADM Clint Thomas (r’etd) AM, CSC, has built years of experience and with the knowledge drawn from our work in the UK and Middle East combined with Facilities First, has a compelling set of skills to support Defence across the region.

“Likewise, our key portfolios in health and open Space management and maintenance will be enhanced by the integration of Facilities First, which includes the transition of 2,500 employees and experienced management team to Serco.

“I am proud to have put substantial work into building out our considerable skills in asset and facilities Management, which will enable us to offer enhanced services to our existing clients and reach new markets through our broadened capabilities.”
