SC Johnson has announced its plans to launch a 100 per cent recycled ocean plastic bottle for home cleaning brand, Windex.

“With over five trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean, conditions are continuing to get worse and worse,” said Fisk Johnson, chairman and CEO of SC Johnson.

“The Windex bottle is just one of the many ways we are not only providing solutions to combat ocean pollution but taking action to make these solutions a reality.”

Based in the USA, SC Johnson is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of household cleaning products and products for home storage, air care, pest control and shoe care, as well as professional products.

The Windex brand has been one of the company’s most popular brands for the past 86 years. Windex bottles have been 100 per cent post-consumer recycled plastic since 2015.

The Windex vinegar ocean plastic bottles will be available at North American retailers such as Target and Walmart. As many as eight million units are set to hit retail shelves in April 2019.

The non-toxic, cruelty-free glass cleaner bottle will be made from 100 per cent recycled ocean plastic.

Plans are also underway for SC Johnson to launch a 100 per cent social plastic Windex bottle with Plastic Bank by the end of 2019. The product will include recycled ocean-bound social plastic sourced by Plastic Bank from Haiti, the Philippines and Indonesia, which will also provide social benefits to people living below the poverty level.

“The goal is to create recycling infrastructures to help minimise plastic waste and address the challenges of poverty at the same time,” said Johnson.

“This is a massive environmental issue, and it is going to take businesses, governments, NGOs and civil society working together to solve it.”
