Quayclean secures Optus Stadium contract

Quayclean awarded cleaning contract for Optus Stadium and Stadium Park.

Australian-owned cleaning, hygiene, and waste management services company, Quayclean Australia, has been awarded the cleaning and presentation contract for the multi-purpose Optus Stadium and the Stadium Park in Perth.

Quayclean has entered into a five-year agreement with VenuesLive, which operates the site on behalf of VenuesWest.

The 60,000-seat capacity Optus Stadium hosts more than 40 AFL, Cricket, NRL, Rugby Union, Football, and entertainment events each year, and is the home ground to the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers AFL teams, the Australian cricket team, the Perth Scorchers Big Bash team, as well as hosting the Australian Wallabies, State of Origin, touring English Premier League teams and concert performances.

Quayclean is the chief provider of cleaning and waste management services to stadiums and public venues throughout Australia, and the Optus Stadium agreement extends its major stadia reach across the mainland.

Quayclean’s appointment further broadens its Perth footprint. It is currently the cleaning service provider for education facilities and public venues including Perth Racing, RAC Arena, Perth Zoo, HBF Arena, HBF Stadium, Gold Netball Centre, WA Athletics Stadium, Champions Lakes Regatta Centre and the SpeedDome.

Quayclean CEO, Mark Piwkowski, said the award-winning Optus Stadium is one of the world’s best sport and entertainment venues.

“We are thrilled VenuesLive has placed its faith in Quayclean. We are totally invested in delivering a consistently excellent ‘fans-first’ venue experience whilst enhancing the global reputation of Western Australia and Optus Stadium,” said Piwkowski.

“We will develop innovative systems, technologies and resources that optimise labour in the most efficient manner and maintain our steadfast commitment to six of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” he added.

“We will also support VenuesLive in meeting the Western Australian State Government’s Resource Recovery Objectives 2030 and to increase waste recovery to more than 95 per cent.

“We have increased recycling rates at the Sydney Opera House from 55 per cent to 95 per cent over the past five years and are consistently achieving waste recovery rates of 93 per cent at Adelaide Oval.

“Over recent years, we have implemented several changes in our operations in equipment, cars, chemicals, water use and waste management to support our commitment to environmental sustainability” he added.

VenuesLive WA CEO, Mike McKenna, said: “We welcome Quayclean to the family of providers who work hard to ensure that Optus Stadium continues to meet the expectations of the WA public who love coming to the venue.

“Quayclean’s commitment to providing an increasingly sustainable service is critically important to us, the WA Government, and those who play, perform and watch events here.”

Suin Hettige will lead the Optus Stadium contract and will be overseen by Ashley Butler, General Manager WA/SA.

Hettige has extensive experience working in major venues throughout Australia including the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Sydney Opera House, Metricon Stadium and C-Bus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.

As part of its investment into the venue, Quayclean is sending leaders from across the country to assist with the initial contract mobilisation.

“This demonstrates our commitment to VenuesLive and Venues West. It is also great for the development of our leadership group and our WA team,” said Piwkowski.

Optus Stadium was voted the World’s Most Beautiful Stadium in 2019 and Venue of the Year in 2022.
