Gen Z Workers Worried About Getting Replaced by AI

Survey reveals the generational impact artificial intelligence is having on Gen Z workers

A recent survey by D2L, a global learning innovation company, has found that Generation Z workers are concerned about losing their jobs to artificial intelligence (AI), especially when compared to Generation X workers.

The survey of 3,000 full- and part-time U.S. workers revealed that more than half of Gen Z participants (52%) were worried about getting replaced by AI. Similarly concerned millennials followed slightly behind Gen Z at 45%, while just 33% of Gen X workers felt the same way.

That said, the survey also found that most employees surveyed would be willing to use AI as a tool to make themselves more productive, with 60% saying they want to use AI more frequently over the next 12 months.

In an interview with D2L, Chike Aguh, senior advisor at The Project on Workforce at Harvard University, predicted that, in the near future, having the skills to work with AI will be as commonplace as possessing other technical software skills, such as word processing.

“In two years, if someone can’t use technology to increase their productivity, we won’t hire them, because that’ll be as basic as Microsoft Office,” he told D2L.
