Last week the World Federation of Building Service Contractors (WFBSC) secured observer status at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe GHS subcommittee in Geneva. This subcommittee is responsible for global policy on the regulation of chemical products including cleaning chemicals.

Speaking after the meeting Andrew Large, WFBSC executive vice president said: “The WFBSC is delighted that its application for observer status has been approved. This represents a step change improvement in our ability to represent the interests of global cleaning employers.

“We look forward to engaging with the UN subcommittee in the coming months to ensure that the position of downstream cleaning chemical users is fully understood by the regulatory authorities

In early February 2012 the WFBSC will attend its second meeting with the World Health Organisation to promote ‘cleaning for health’.

That same month the WFBSC will participate in the next International Organisation of Employers sectoral meeting. According to Large, this meeting will be a key opportunity to learn about issues such as global union rights and corporate social responsibility.
