‘Water: its importance in sustainable cleaning’ is the core theme chosen for the 19th World Federation of Building Service Contractors International Congress, Curitiba, Brazil, from 10 to 14 October 2012.

It will be held simultaneously with the 22nd Regional Higiexpo – Hygiene, Cleaning and Maintenance Products and Services Exhibition, and the 23rd ENEAC – National Meeting of the Cleaning and Maintenance Companies. The three meetings will assemble more than 5,000 visitors.

The topic of sustainability will be approached in various ways throughout the conference, notably through presentations made by leading international experts.

Stephen Ashkin will speak on ‘Green and sustainable: how can cleaning companies meet the demands of a changing world’ while by James Marins will address ‘The socio-environmental paradigm of the 21st century and the tax law’.

Karcher’s deputy chief executive officer, vice chairman of the management board, Markus Asch, will discuss ‘Intelligent application in cleaning: how a sustainable attitude will increase productivity in this industry’.

Another congress activity related to this topic is the Diversey Sustainability Award, granted to companies that have applied sustainable innovations significantly and successfully.

The Fundação do Asseio e Conservação do Estado do Paraná (FACOP) will also contribute by opening a botanical garden symbolising the importance of implementing ecologically sound initiatives.

WFBSC president Adonai Aires de Arruda emphasises that sustainability is a theme to be taken seriously by the industry. “The judicious use of natural resources is crucial to decrease environmental impacts. Water is our main tool and cleaning and maintenance entrepreneurs are incumbent with implementing practices grounded on an environmentally correct conduct.

“We are working to reiterate our public commitment as companies seeking an ecologically correct, socially responsible and economically feasible performance,” he adds.

The WFBSC Brazilian edition is sponsored by Diversey, Karcher, Indústrias Becker, Alfa Tennant, UPS Serviços, Seven Uniformes, Leone Equipamentos, Sutter Professional and Confederação Nacional do Comercio (CNC).
