UNAA NSW and BCSD Australia announce partnership

The new Australian partnership is in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia (BCSD Australia) and the United Nations Association of Australia New South Wales (UNAA NSW) have announced a new Australian partnership in support of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Under this collaboration, both organisations have agreed to take out mutual membership of each other and will actively work together on a pipeline of events and resources to drive greater business and community engagement with the SDGs in Australia.

Both organisations share a number of common objectives, including respecting and promoting universal human rights and combatting modern slavery, taking ambitious action on climate change and driving progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

BCSD Australia CEO Andrew Petersen said the membership of UNAA (NSW) continues BCSD Australia’s approach to collaborate and partner with key civil society, academic, and public sector organisations to support business in working to create a sustainable inclusive Australian society and economy.

The partnership will enable UNAA (NSW) and BCSD Australia to increase their reach and positive impact by working together on events, summits and the development and dissemination of information resources on the SDGs, as called for in the Final Report of the Australian Senate Inquiry into the SDGs. Under the partnership, BCSD Australia and UNAA (NSW) will organise at least one joint event per year starting from 2019-2020.

Dr Patricia Jenkings, President BA (Hons) PhD (USYD), UNAA (NSW) said UNAA (NSW) is excited to work with BCSD Australia to grow its impact and raise awareness of the goals.

“The new partnership demonstrates the 2030 Agenda in action—stakeholders collaborating to build a safer, fairer and more sustainable world, together,” she said.

UNAA (NSW) joins other non-private sector members of BCSD Australia, such as the Australian National University, Banksia Foundation, Good Environmental Choice Australia, the Investor Group on Climate Change, and the University of Sydney Business School.

BCSD Australia joins other not-for-profit UNAA (NSW) members including the Australian Respiratory Council, Compass Housing Services, the Fighting for Justice Foundation, and the Institute for Economics and Peace.
