They arrive after hours, move quietly through corridors and leave only a spotless trail behind. Across the country, thousands of cleaners ensure offices, schools and public spaces are ready for the day ahead, often without ever meeting the people who benefit from their work.

Each October, Kärcher leads a simple but powerful gesture of recognition. Thank Your Cleaner Day gives businesses the chance to pause and acknowledge the people who make safe, hygienic workplaces possible.

From a single idea to a global movement

The initiative began in 2015 when Building Service Contractors of New Zealand and Kärcher joined forces to recognise the vital role of cleaners. It was a small idea with big resonance. What started in New Zealand has since travelled across borders, with cleaning companies, clients and employees worldwide embracing the day.

The idea is simple. On Thank Your Cleaner Day, office workers and site managers can express their gratitude to onsite cleaning staff. Whether it’s a handwritten note, a small gift or a heartfelt thank you, the gesture matters.

Recognising unseen work

Most cleaners work outside regular hours, often in the evenings or early mornings. Their effort sets the stage for business to run smoothly, yet many remain unseen. This day bridges that gap by making their work visible and valued.

Workplaces of every scale can take part, from corporate offices to factories, schools and public buildings. The celebration is not about grand displays but small, meaningful acknowledgements that say, ‘We see you. We value what you do.’

Kärcher’s role in driving change

Kärcher, a global leader in cleaning technology, has long been a trusted partner to professional cleaners. Its involvement in Thank Your Cleaner Day reflects its broader commitment to sustainability, community and social responsibility.

By driving the campaign worldwide, Kärcher aims to build awareness of the vital contribution cleaners make to safe, healthy workplaces.

How to get involved

Kärcher encourages businesses to contact their local partner to organise celebrations. A simple note of appreciation can turn an ordinary shift into something extraordinary.

Learn more about how to take part in Thank Your Cleaner Day through Kärcher’s website and make your gratitude count this October.
