Thank Your Cleaner Day gains global support

Cleaning and facilities management group calls on industry to support NZ initiative.

Global cleaning and facilities management group OCS has thrown its support behind the Building Services Contractors New Zealand’s (BSCNZ) annual initiative, Thank Your Cleaner Day.

Launched in New Zealand in 2015, Thank Your Cleaner Day, supported by Karcher, will be held this year on October 18 and celebrates the vital and valued contribution that professional cleaners make to the community every day.

As part of the day, employees are encouraged to share materials such as facts, videos and information on cleaning practices in their workplace and on social media with #thankyourcleanerday to help raise awareness of the value workplace cleaners provide and encourage others to express their gratitude.

Peter Slator, CEO of OCS Group, has urged both cleaning companies and customers cleaning to get behind the initiative this year.

“So many of the people that do a great job [in the cleaning industry] for our clients every day tend to be ignored. They tend not to get that recognition and that simple thing of someone saying ‘thankyou’. They get taken for granted,” Slator said.

Slator, who has been at the helm of the UK-based cleaning and facilities management group since January 2016, believes the event, which was started in NZ, can become a global initiative.

“It’s a great initiative and I think can be exported to the rest of the world. It’s one of those initiatives that once you know about it, it seems absolutely intuitive and completely obviously,” he said.

“If you’re a cleaning company get involved. It’s great for the industry because it means it’s a more attractive place to work. If you’re a customer get involved as well because people appreciate getting the recognition, not from their employer, but from the customer.”
