As part of International Cleaning Week, The Spotless Spaces Competition has opened nominations, calling on facilities teams to showcase the environments they maintain and the dedication that keeps those spaces safe, healthy and welcoming. It sets out to recognise excellence across cleaning, hygiene and maintenance while celebrating the often unseen work that supports public life every day.

From transport hubs and hospitals to offices, campuses and cultural venues, the competition focuses on spaces where cleanliness underpins trust. Each nomination tells a story of care, consistency and commitment, revealing how thoughtful cleaning practices shape experiences for staff, visitors and communities alike.

Finalists gain more than a title. Selected teams and facilities receive industry recognition and progress to a public vote, placing their work in front of a global audience that understands the value of high standards. The awards themselves reflect different dimensions of excellence, from overall performance to innovation and sustainability.

One honour recognises the top United States facility as determined by popular vote, highlighting standout achievement in cleaning outcomes and presentation. Another celebrates an international facility, selected by both industry professionals and the public, that demonstrates superior hygiene and maintenance practices on a global stage. A third award, supported by Tork, an Essity brand, focuses on forward-thinking hygiene management, with particular emphasis on sustainable systems, inclusive design and accessibility that supports every user.

Beyond the accolades, winners receive opportunities to connect and lead. Award recipients are announced during International Cleaning Week and celebrated at the inaugural ICW Awards Dinner in Washington, DC. Each winner also receives a complimentary registration to the Clean Advocacy Summit, opening the door to deeper engagement with industry leaders and policy conversations.

Why nominations matter

With nominations open until 23 January 2026, the competition offers a timely reminder that great cleaning deserves a platform. Each entry helps elevate the profession, sharing ideas and setting benchmarks that influence future practice. For teams on the ground, it represents a moment of recognition that validates effort and expertise.

The Spotless Spaces Competition invites organisations to step into the spotlight, tell their story and inspire peers across the industry. In doing so, it reinforces a simple truth that clean spaces shape better outcomes for everyone who passes through them.
