bscaa-250x250The peak body representing contract cleaning in Australia, Building Service Contractors Association of Australia (BSCAA), has issued a statement in response to recent publicity regarding the underpayment of wages.

“The BSCAA condemns the unlawful practice of  contracting arrangements, the intention of which is to pay cleaners below the legislated wage rates and conditions contained in the Cleaning Services Award 2010,” stated the BSCAA.

“Such practices are illegal.

“BSCAA opposes sham contracting and for many years and has waged a vigorous campaign to educate the industry on the need for compliance in the  payment of wages and statutory obligations for its employees.”

A final comment; “BSCAA fully supports the investigation and prosecution of illegal subcontracting practices by the Fair Work Ombudsman and other government agencies.”
