The Restoration Industry Association (RIA) is inviting members and industry peers to its October state meetings, offering a valuable mix of networking, professional development and industry updates.

This round of meetings will introduce a new format. For the first time, the sessions will be held in the morning, making it easier for members and their teams to participate while still balancing the demands of a busy workday. Attendees can expect a productive start to the day, with the chance to connect with peers, exchange ideas and return to site armed with fresh knowledge.

Education focus: Introduction to Initial Assessment Reporting

This month’s education presentation will examine the critical role of accurate reporting in restoration and insurance claim management. Titled Introduction to Initial Assessment Reporting, the session will highlight how technicians serve as the “first eyes and ears” for insurers, shaping claims from the moment they arrive on site.

Key insights will include:

  • The importance of accurate, defensible documentation for claim acceptance and compliance with the forthcoming AS/IICRC S500:2025
  • How to identify and record property vulnerabilities, safety concerns and causes of loss in line with insurer requirements
  • Distinguishing pre-existing damage from new loss to reduce disputes and delays
  • Best practice for documenting makesafe works, stabilisation equipment and monitoring schedules
  • How clear and structured recommendations help insurers make faster, more informed decisions

Attendees will come away with practical techniques to strengthen their assessment and reporting processes. The focus is on building skills that support compliance, improve claim efficiency and ultimately deliver stronger outcomes for insurers, policyholders and technicians.
