The Restoration Industry Association (RIA) has announced the formation of an advocacy and government affairs (AGA) committee in the US.

The committee, understood to be the first of its kind in the industry, will provide advocacy for restoration professionals and seek to influence legislation and reform.

The committee will be chaired by Edward H. Cross and also consist of a panel of restoration industry veterans.

“The AGA will unite the restoration industry and become the leading voice advocating for the best interests of restoration contractors nationwide,” Cross said.

“It will develop and implement strategies to help create and maintain equity between restorers and insurers and their partners.”

It follows the announcement of the RIA and the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification’s (IICRC) strategic partnership in May.

Under the agreement RIA will develop its educational programs and IICRC will provide the administration of certifications.

IICRC will offer and market RIA programs to IICRC certified firms and IICRC registrants, and RIA will also be able to market its programs to IICRC members.

The RIA is the largest trade association representing the restoration and reconstruction industry with more than 1100 member firms worldwide.
