Quayclean Australia has wrapped up its month-long SAFEtember workplace safety initiative, marking a milestone in its commitment to health, wellbeing and prevention across its national workforce.

Quayclean Australia has declared its inaugural SAFEtember campaign a major success, with the month-long safety initiative now set to become an annual fixture. The comprehensive program was designed to strengthen awareness around work health and safety, personal wellbeing and mental health across all levels of the business.

Head of work health and safety Daniel Nicholls led the campaign alongside safety coordinator Natalia Duran and Quayclean’s National Work Health Safety Committee. Over four weeks, the program featured daily livestreamed sessions, expert presentations and on-site engagement designed to keep safety front of mind for the company’s nationwide teams.

SAFEtember delivered 42 live training videos covering topics such as chemical handling, ergonomics, biohazard management, child safeguarding, robotics and vehicle safety. The program also included 224 toolbox talks and contributions from 12 external experts and 20 internal team members.

Health and safety provider Health by Design conducted individual health assessments and education sessions on fatigue management, stress prevention and nutrition, while AccessEAP focused on wellbeing through early intervention and human connection. Vehicle fleet management partner Customer Fleet delivered practical safety guidance on vehicle pre-checks, trailer use and fatigue awareness for drivers.

Nicholls said the campaign exceeded expectations in both engagement and outcomes. “The strong participation and feedback showed that our teams were not only watching but were fully invested in creating safer, healthier and more connected workplaces,” he said. “The sessions were designed to be interactive and engaging, and the enthusiasm from staff was incredible.”

Adding a touch of creativity, teams embraced themes and costumes to bring energy to each session. “From wigs and colourful outfits to high-vis vests, these light-hearted moments helped drive home important messages about connection, wellbeing and shared responsibility,” Nicholls said.

While the official campaign has concluded, Nicholls said the work continues. “With a busy summer ahead, our focus remains on prevention, wellbeing and consistent communication. Every toolbox talk and training session strengthens our culture of safety as a shared responsibility.”

CEO Mark Piwkowski congratulated the WHS team on the program’s success. “SAFEtember reinforced our mission that every worker goes home safe and well each day,” he said. “There’s no room for complacency when it comes to safety.”
