The New South Wales Government has announced that the $1 billion dollar revamp of Sydney’s Darling Harbour has received planning approval (24 August 2013). The successful Darling Harbour Live public private partnership (PPP) consortium includes Spotless, which will be responsible for delivering facility management services.
The development includes the planned International Convention Centre, slated to be Australia’s largest, and Haymarket.
The construction over a 20-hectare zone between Cockle Bay, Haymarket and Ultimo is expected to create at least 3700 construction jobs and up to 4000 ancillary ones.
There are also plans for a 38-storey hotel that will include meeting rooms, a ballroom, restaurant, bar, pool and gym and reception areas.
The facilities are being delivered through the PPP over a 25 year contract. They will open in December 2016.
Darling Harbour Live comprises Lend Lease, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless. Lend Lease’s infrastructure development business Capella Capital is the PPP development manager and financial advisor. Lend Lease’s project management and construction business will design and construct the facilities while AEG Ogden will be the operator of the facilities.
As noted, Spotless will be responsible for delivering facility management services.
