Most facility managers consider restrooms to be the most problematic areas to clean, according to a new CMM survey of more than 500 facility managers and in-house service providers.

When asked to choose from a list of “most problematic areas/surfaces” to clean and maintain, more than 40 per cent of respondents to the 2021 CMM In-House/Facility Management Benchmarking Survey ranked restrooms at the top.

Restrooms were followed by carpeted surfaces (20 per cent), entryways/foyers (14 per cent), hard floor surfaces (12 per cent), and multisurface areas (9 per cent).

Compared to CMM’s 2020 benchmarking survey, restrooms remained on top though falling slightly from 43 per cent. Carpeted surfaces took second place again jumping from 17 per cent.

Entryway/foyers jumped from fifth place to third place this year while hard floor care surfaces remained at fourth place.
