A grassroots campaign in Fiji is bringing International Cleaning Week into sharp local focus, where public space becomes the stage for collective action and shared responsibility.
Aligned with ISSA, Hygiene & Sanitization Services Fiji Ltd (HSS) is marking the global initiative with a community clean-up at Shirley Park, Lautoka, Fiji Islands on 28 March 2026. The event invites residents, partners and volunteers to step beyond routine and engage directly with the environments they use every day.
A local response to a global movement
Running from 8am to 11am, the Clean Up Campaign 2026 frames cleaning as both profession and civic act. Gloves, bags and refreshments will be provided, removing barriers to participation and encouraging a broad cross section of the community to take part.
For Flick executive director Mohammed Zakariah, the campaign reflects a wider message that sits at the heart of International Cleaning Week. Clean environments support health, strengthen wellbeing and shape how communities function. That message gains traction when it moves into public spaces where its impact can be seen and felt.
More than maintenance
HSS positions the initiative as an extension of professional cleaning into the social fabric of the city. Parks carry a different rhythm to commercial sites, shaped by families, gatherings and daily movement. Maintaining them calls for shared ownership, where responsibility shifts from service provider to community.
The presence of players from the Fijian Drua rugby team adds a layer of visibility and energy, reinforcing the idea that care for public space sits alongside teamwork and pride. It also draws new audiences into the conversation, particularly younger participants who connect with sport as a cultural touchpoint.
Visibility drives value
International Cleaning Week continues to elevate the role of cleaning professionals across diverse settings. Campaigns such as this translate that recognition into action, bridging industry and community in a way that feels immediate and tangible.
Within that exchange, HSS presents a clear proposition. Cleaning reaches beyond compliance or presentation; it shapes how people gather, interact and experience place. By stepping into Shirley Park, the company shifts the narrative from service delivery to shared stewardship, where every participant plays a role in defining the standard.
