The UK’s Building Futures Group (BFG) has folded.

The organisation made the announcement with a brief press release on 14 January, saying it was closing after ‘two successful years.’ However, the BFG offered no explanation as to why its end had come.

The announcement came just over a year after the Cleaning & Support Services Association (CSSA) announced it would terminate its role within the BFG (see story here). The BFG formed the year before following the merger of Asset Skills, the Facilities Management Association and the CSSA.

At the time the BFG formed, chief executive Sarah Bentley said: “The industry lacked a consolidated, industry voice… BFG will provide a platform that has been badly missing.”

However, as Cleanzine pointed out, ‘no platform was established’ despite the fact ‘the new company started brightly enough.’

‘There is no suggestion, at this stage, that any impropriety has taken place, but there is genuine concern that legitimate questions about the merger, and the subsequent business failure, have not been addressed,’ noted the article.

“It’s never good to hear about a company closing, but the lack of information coming from BFG about the reasons for its closure is disappointing,” British Cleaning Council (BCC) chairman, Simon Hollingbery, said. “The BCC and the rest of the cleaning industry need to know what exactly went wrong, so that we can all learn lessons for the future.”
