Winners and runners-up for the Gordon Institute-sponsored Individual Excellence Award

The River Room at Crown Towers in Southbank, Melbourne, was an impressive venue for the AustralianSuper 2011 Building Service Contractors of Australia (BSCAA) Victoria Industry Excellence Awards dinner. The awards recognised excellence of the industry’s key players for outstanding performance in management and service across the board.

State president George Stamas gave a warm welcome to contractors, members, sponsors and guests, which was followed by BSCAA national president Terry Corby’s address. “I think that honouring the employees in our industry at all levels is important. It raises the profile of cleaning, it shows people at the coalface there are opportunities for career advancement and it showcases the industry’s professionalism,” said Corby.

The evening’s first award, sponsored by The Gordon Institute, was the Individual Excellence Award. It was divided into three categories. Excellence in Maintenance of an Educational Facility was awarded to Dean Horgan from GJK Facility Services, and the runner up was Ismael Fikak from CMC Property Services.

Excellence in Maintenance of a Commercial/Retail Site was awarded to Darrem Pannam from Spotless, and the runner up was Hayley Bisevic from GJK Facility Services.

Excellence in Security of a Commerical/Retail Site was awarded to Daryl Croft from Assetlink Services, and the runner up was Stuart Radford from CleanNet Australia.

There was a strong finalist list for the Hako Excellence in the Performance of a Supervisory Role Award that included John Psomadelis, Depal Galabadaarachchi, Mario Connobbio, Rhonda Male and Dimitrios Gasparinatos from GJK; Ismail Yilma, David Bove and Lindsay Gavin from Assetlink Services; Henry Bonanzinga, Shkendije (Sandy) Morina and Jason King from Spotless; and Veronica Cooper and Ismael Fikak from CMC. The Award was won by Veronica Cooper.

The Agar Award for Excellence in Management of a Company shortlisted a number of impressive finalists, including Elly Krommidas from CMC Property Services, George Hallal from Assetlink Services , Lou La Delfa from GJK Facility Services, Francis Angel from Mutual Cleaning & Maintenance, Peter Mazalin from CleanNet Australia, Rodney Stone from MDC Property Services, Matt Marsh from Sebastian Property Services, and Lister Manaka from Peppermint Clean. The Award was won by Lou La Delfa.

The night concluded with a Recognition Award, presented by Corby, to the Victorian executive committee for outstanding commitment to the Association. The recipients of this acclaimed award were George Stamas, GJK Facility Services; Paul McCann, CMC Property Services; George Hallal, Assetlink Services; Francis Angel, Mutual Cleaning & Maintenance; and Joe Kaplan, Kaplan Services.
