Thrive is thrilled to launch the State of Indoor Air in Australia 2025 Report, a national first that puts a spotlight on the air we breathe indoors.
Australia has been publishing State of the Environment reports for more than two decades, yet until now, the air inside our buildings has never been measured on a national scale. The science is clear. Indoor air quality directly affects health, with well-documented social and economic impacts. But without robust data, translating evidence into policy and practice has been a major challenge.
This landmark report fills that gap. It shines a light on how indoor air is performing across building types and over time, revealing key contributors to poor air quality and the ripple effects on wellbeing. It also underscores the role of source control, ventilation and filtration as powerful levers for improvement, while showing how multi-disciplinary research can unlock practical solutions for a wide range of building classes.
More than a data set, this baseline report is designed to spark national collaboration across jurisdictions and disciplines. It sets the stage for a coordinated strategy that can guide evidence-based action and track progress over time. As more data emerges, this report will evolve, capturing the impact of new measures and interventions.
Led by Associate Professor Wendy Miller and Distinguished Professor Lidia Morawska, this is the first national report to bring together scientific evidence on indoor air quality in Australian buildings, setting a bold new benchmark for the built environment.
