Carpet cleaning standard seeks public comment

Revised Australian and New Zealand carpet maintenance standard released in draft form.

A revision of the Australian and New Zealand standard for carpet maintenance is underway, with the new draft seeking public comment from the cleaning and restoration industry.

The cleaning maintenance of residential and commercial carpeting (AS/NZ:3733) standard, aimed at providing specifications and guidelines for maintenance techniques for textile floor coverings for both residential and commercial carpets, was original prepared by the joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee in 1995.

At the time of its launch the objective of the standard was to “provide cleaning practitioners and consumers with minimum requirements for cleaning maintenance programs and cleaning techniques to enable textile floor coverings to be kept in a good and hygienic condition”.

A revision of the standard, which INCLEAN understands is only one of two standards that relate to cleaning services, has been released in draft form, with final submissions due by 4 September.
